The Faculty of Geography, Tourism and Sports was established by the union of two traditional fields of higher education of Oradea established in 1964, namely Physical Education and Sports and Geography, to which the fields of Environmental Science (2000) and Physiotherapy (2011) were later added. With a modern material base and a team of 52 teaching staff, the faculty educates about 800 students enrolled in 8 bachelor's programs, 4 master's programs and a doctoral school in the field of Geography. The continuous modernization is also reflected in the existence of a complete program (Bachelor and Master) in the field of tourism lectured in English.

    The mission of the faculty is to train specialists in accordance with the requirements of the labor market in the mentioned fields. This goal is achieved through attractive programs, including subjects corresponding to specific standards, supported by teaching staff whose competence is proven by their professional and scientific activity, recognized nationally and internationally.

    The faculty includes two departments in its structure: the Department of Physical Education, Sports and Physiotherapy and the Department of Geography, Tourism and Territorial Planning. At the bachelor's level, the 8 programs are: Physical Education and Sports, Sports and Motor Performance, Physiotherapy and Special Motor Skills, Physiotherapy and Special Motor Skills (lectured in English), Geography of Tourism, Geography of Tourism (lectured in English), Geoinformatics, Territorial Planning and at master's level: Physical Education and Sports Training, Physiotherapy in Functional Reeducation, Management and Territory Planning Assisted by GIS, Tourism Management and Planning (lectured in English). The doctoral school in the field of Geography is supported by 5 PhD supervisors and over 30 PhD students. The doctoral school in the field of Sports Science and Physical Education is supported by 5 doctoral supervisors and over 10 PhD students.

    The research directions cover all four areas managed by the faculty. At its level, two research centers operate: Territorial Studies and Analysis Centre (nationally accredited) and the Research Center for Human Performance. The research activity of teaching staff is materialized through the publication of articles in scientific journals, accredited by CNCS and indexed in international databases, books, volumes, atlases. Five specialized journals are published under the auspices of the departments and research centers: the Romanian Journal of Political Geography (B+), the Romanian Journal of Physical Therapy (B+), the Annals of the University of Oradea: Geography series (B+) and the issue of Physical Education and Sports (B+), GeoJournal of Tourism and Geosites (B+), Geosport for Society (B+), indexed in international databases.
